About

Aerial view of reclaimed teak being sorted at an Indonesian mill site
The mill site where every plank we sell begins.

Indo Teak Design was founded in San Diego on a single conviction: that the most beautiful wood in the world has already been cut. Indonesia's old colonial warehouses, fishing boats, and sugar factories were framed in teak so dense and slow-grown that no plantation today comes close. When those buildings come down, the wood does not need to be re-felled — it needs to be saved, sorted, and finished by hand.

"We don't cut anything. We rescue what's already there, and we let the wood tell us what it wants to be."

How a plank gets to your floor

Every board we sell goes through the same five-step path: recovery, kiln-drying, milling, hand-finishing, and inspection. We work directly with our partners on Java where colonial-era teak structures are responsibly disassembled. The salvaged timbers travel a few hours to our mill, where they are kiln-dried to North American moisture targets, milled to flooring, tile, or panel dimensions, and finished by hand in oil. Nothing is rushed. A single book-matched plank can take weeks.

What the floor remembers

Reclaimed teak does not look like new teak. It carries the original mill marks, the iron stain of an old bolt, the silver patina of a hundred monsoons. We grade for character, not against it. If you are looking for a flooring that is identical board-to-board, this is not it. If you want a floor that feels like it was always there — that is exactly what we make.

Who we work with

Architects, interior designers, and contractors specify our floors and panels for boutique hotels, restaurants, retail flagships, and homes that want to feel grounded. We also ship single boxes to homeowners renovating one room at a time. Whether you need 30 sq ft for a powder room or 8,000 sq ft for a hospitality build, the same hands finish the wood.
